A million dollars penalty was fined by South Korea

According to reports, Google is fined A$ 74 million and Meta is fined A$ 33 million for a privacy violation on Wednesday 14th Sep, 2022. The privacy panel reported that Google and Meta didn’t take permission before using the data for analyzing and collecting information regarding customers to make advertisements for the target audience.  

Google disagreed with the PIPC’s decision and asked for a written report on this breach of privacy. Google also said that they have always been committed to following privacy laws declared by PIPC. The company always shares a demonstration of the updates the company makes to give full control and transparency to the users as well as provide the best possible products according to the requirements of the customers. Customer privacy is their first and foremost priority.

Meta also disagreed with the PIPC decision. The company said that they respect the decision of PIPC but Meta is confident that they haven’t breached any laws. The company works according to legal standards to protect users’ information. Also, the company works according to the requirements of local regulations. Meta said that they are open to all the options even if they have to go to court for the ruling.

Google faced another incident of breaching laws in European countries in less than a year where the European top court agreed with the European anti-trust regulators. Google has been accused of abusing dominance by the European court. Google was fined A$ 3.6 million in this case but the court trim the fine for Google.

Google and Meta have been accused of breaching privacy laws more than once. They need to take serious steps to avoid such a situation in future.
